11 May 2016

I've been looking at the recent mini photoshoot I had and the praises that the impressively edited photo received. I was really impressed and had no idea how to react to such an incredibly dramatic photo, except thankful and... impressed.. hahaha. However, I had a sort of different reaction when judging the reception, though. Looking through the comments, a thought came to my mind. The thought may have come from my low self-esteem or just my pure stupidity or maybe because this is the first time any of my photos EVER received so much reception. Nonetheless, I wondered. In the production of a cosplay photo (or any modelling photo for that matter), who should receive what amount of praise and credit for it? The cosplayer (who made the costume and posed and actually appears in the pictures) or the photographer (who skillfully took the photo and edited it to add the dramatic flare)?

To be honest, I probably already know the answer to my own question; the production of the photo is a teamwork of both the cosplayer and the photographer as well as anyone who spent time and effort to make it.

Yes,

However, the response and reception of the photos released were just so one sided, I could not let the matter get out of my head.
On one side, the cosplayer.
They make the costumes. They make the props. They spend time refining the costume, over and over again. They do up their makeup. They buy all sorts of things to perfect their costumes and portrayal of the characters. On another layer, they will have to do research and practice to embody the character as accurately as possible and come up with poses and expressions to match the character to really bring out the feelings of the actual character. They try to fit as exact as possible to the character they are cosplaying because when the costume or makeup is inaccurate, they are the ones who will get flamed or heavily criticized.

Following that, the photographer.
They take the photos: angles, lighting, composition, positioning, tilt, where to focus, etc etc. It takes quite a lot of practice and skill; for someone who had been with a camera almost all her life, can say that. After that, they will (well, most photographers) will pick out the best photos and edit them to their hearts' content, with or without the cosplayer's inputs.

Then, the photo gets published.

Where is the limit though, how much of the picture is the photographer's work?

It's pretty obvious for a 'famous' cosplayer that the cosplayer will get most of the credits, especially when they make the costumes themselves, but at the same time, other cosplayers will try to find out who their photographer is and ask them for shoots so that they can look 'as good as the famous cosplayers or even better'. It's the same trend you see. Even with the photo that brought this issue on hand. The audience didn't exactly praise the cosplayer, they are, directly or indirectly, praising and acknowledging the photographer's works. The photographer!
"<3 ____="" div="" i="" shoot="" too="" want="">
"Forever nice photos"
"Pro!"
"WAHH, look damn striking!"
"SUGOI"
.. and the comments went on and on.

I was gonna say 'oh yes the photo was posted on the photog's page', but I shared the post too. The difference was that there were no comments at all and there were barely any likes.

!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!

This thought would probably haunt me but as a takeaway, I'm gonna acknowledge both the cosplayers and the photographer when I look at photos. From here on out. Yes.

ok back to watching my Iron Blooded Orphans marathon hahahah ^~^

Hobbies and Society

3 November 2015

Submissions for group projects are next week, that weekend is Gamestart, exams starts the week after that, and AFA is two weeks after that. I am SO not ready for any of that.

And here I am.

Haha,.. I need a break from doing research to complete the remaining 3 out of 4 group projects left. ugh. It's annoying that my school is so far away and I feel guilty that I am not going for group meeting because it is fucking troublesome to travel 2 hours to school to do group meeting and then 2 hours back home. That's a fucking waste of time, that I only have 24 hours a day to do anything at all and 4 hours of travel is already 1/6 of the day gone, not counting my sleep?!

Anyways, ranting as it is, another series of rants I've been seeing through Facebook is something along the line of cosplayers quitting because they don't feel good cosplaying anymore...? Possibly with the common cause of a certain group of society who are quick to criticize, and/or their attitudes in general towards their own cosplays?
Coincidentally earlier today, I read an article through Facebook about an 18-year-old Instagram model quitting modelling and is now revealing the truth in her million-followers Instagram account through posting the "truth" behind the "perfect" photos. Some of the "truths" include taking hundreds of photos to get the perfect shot to post on Instagram, and being paid by designer companies to wear certain clothes so that she will post it on her account to show to her followers, also known as advertising. She decided to stop because her initial intention of creating art with her body and enjoying it has become commercialize and people value her as a model to promote their products rather than appreciating her for being her, for being pretty, and when she doesn't meet their expectations, she was criticized.
So I guess the main thing that one have to keep grounded to is the intention of starting a hobby, or a passion. This very reason is what brought realization to this girl to quit Instagram modelling before it was too late for her to bring herself out of it without any detrimental consequences. Society is screwed up and I cannot agree more to that, but it is us who decide on how to react to it. With the right intention, you wouldn't loose your way easily, or feel let down by your own passion and something you loved.
I started cosplaying because I want to MAKE and SHOWCASE my costumes and be the characters that I love, rather than the popularity. Honestly, what popularity can you gain through cosplay anyway. The popularity would ultimately link to the character rather than the cosplayer, particularly in the eyes of people outside of coscom who pretty much don't give a damn about the artist and only the art. Hence with this intention, it didn't actually mattered to me that I don't get much "Likes" in my posts and cosplays. Partly because if any popular, someone I know outside of cosplay may juuuust find out that it is me and things may get awkward. haha...

Yeah, it is sad seeing cosplayers leaving the community for such reasons, be it clearly pointed to a group of criticizers or just the lost of reasoning with themselves. But yeah I'll admit that while I make sure that cosplay remains just a hobby, I get stressed up over it also hahaha... Well, that I'll have to make sure I am stressing up with the right things instead, like school haha...

Okay now back to school work hais

Boruto the movie

12 October 2015

HEYYY!
So I went to watch Boruto today with Tsuna at GV. We got a movie premium merchandise along with our ticket which is a clear file of the movie.
IM SO GONA USE THE FILE HEHE
#otakumode

First of all can I say how much the movie pulls my heart and those who have followed Naruto since day 1?
The movie puts Naruto, who we have been associated with and known for as long as we can remember, in a position he had been aiming for his entire life. We are all too familiar with the hardships, the vigorous training, hard work and sacrifices Naruto had to face and overcome with his ferocious effort to put him to where he is now(at the movie) as the 7th Hokage.
It might seem the end of the series, yes in fact it is for Naruto's manga, but not for his life because there is his son to continue the story.
His son, Boruto Uzumaki, is said to be splitting image of Naruto, and his temper is linked along with it too. However, the major MAJOR difference is in their upbringing. Boruto has both his parents AND his sister alive and well. Naruto back then lost both his parents to the monster that was now within him, but whom he now calls friend. It was the very monster that resided within him that led to people ostracizing him, call HIM the monster and they blamed HIM for the destruction in the previous Ninja War; where as he was just a newborn babe, a few minute into the world.

That is why I argue that the most impactful moments in the movie was the part when Naruto assisted Boruto in forming his Rasengan. Boruto is still young, and he did not have kuruma's chakra to add to his stock of chakra. Therefore it might be true to say that Naruto may have had an advantage. However this advantage was, as I mentioned before, the very problem that caused many of the hardships in his life as he was ostracized by society, and also left in the world as an orphan. However, it did not mean that Naruto had slacked. For him to be the strongest ninja, he trained through blood and sweat to gain his worthy title. He overcame many obstacles, met many people, watched many of his friends, comrades, teachers... die in this cruel world. It is all these made him stronger. The strength he has now is the outcome of who he was back then, his drive and resilience awed by every person he encountered. Never backing down on his bushido, always giving his all.
All these are familiar to us , who had followed him since the beginning. That's why when Naruto assisted Boruto in his Rasengan formation, the flashback scenes REALLY HIT US. ALL those people lost made him stronger, and it was evident in the strength he has to make the Rasengan ridiculously huge. All the hardships he faced were all that made him stronger. There is never a short cut to gaining power; only the cowardly would run from such a commitment of sharpening their skills. The flashes of the dead make it seem like these people have passed on their will and power to Naruto and it pays a heart-pulling homage to our lovely characters long gone - the characters we had grown to love before they were lost. Boruto was awed by this, and knew he had a lot to learn. Naruto smiled confidently for he was proud at how he got his powers through honesty and hard work, with aid from people all around him, which made him a worthy Hokage.

ALL THE FEELS
Gosh
What am I going to do with all these feels.
hahaha
The temptation to cosplay the new generation of Naruto is strong after the movie omg, they are so lovable and cuuuuute omg SHIPS HAVE SAILED~

And *spoiler alert*
Then final after-credit scene was a win though hahaha... Wonder who Misaki's parents are?? He claims his parent was Orochimaru...
Then came all the weird theories like Orochimaru had like selfcest and produced him, or did like cell division or something. Knowing it's Orochimaru, anything gross is possible. //sweats
But I kinda have my own theory haha..
It goes like this:
With reference with Noragami where when a "god" is given a divine punishment or "die", they cannot actually die because gods are immortal. Instead, they are reincarnated or being "reborn" again into this world as the same person so that they can "restart" their lives as a child and grow old again. Perhaps that's what occurred for Orochimaru to reproduce Misaki. One can argue that Misaki is almost entirely different from Orochimaru and the fact that he called Orochimaru as his parent already distinguishes that Orochimaru and Misaki are separate persons. However, Orochimaru's animal of influence and control is the snake, and snakes have the ability to shed their skin and be 'reborn'. Mayhaps that was what happened. So basically, Orochimaru shed his skins and was 'reborn' into this world as Misaki and Misaki acknowledges this and refers Orochimaru as his "parent". This could be the reasoning behind Misaki's existence but this assumes that Orochimaru is no longer a form in this world (because he is now Misaki). So this reasoning only stands IF  Orochimaru is no more. Yeap...

YESSSSS ok I need to calm my feels. hahahaha
cya~
